Last week Room 7 finished reading Harry
Potter and the philosophers stone. It was a great read! To celebrate we had a
Harry Potter inspired learning day.
It started on Friday when all the
children received their Hogwarts acceptance letters which included their
equipment list and asking them to be ready Monday for their lessons.
After a busy weekend of preparing
Monday arrived along with 29 very excited children! First, we needed to go
through the secret wall to platform 9 3/4. Each child received their train
ticket and through they went.
Next was of course the sorting ceremony
where the children were sorted into 7 groups of four using the sorting hat.
Once all the groups were ready, we started our first lesson. POTIONS! The
groups had to create a potion for laughter using the ingredients provided.
- Powdered mermaid scales (Baking soda)
- Ground unicorn horn (Glitter)
- Angel snot (Vinegar)
- Crystallized sunbeams (Crystals)
- Fairy spit (Coconut essence)
- Essence of rainbow (Red food colouring)
- Christmas syrup (Almond essence)
- Happiness elixir (bubble mixture and blower)
- Dragons blood (dish washing liquid)
Lots of laughs and squeals when the
ingredients exploded. Lucky we were wearing our protective aprons.

Our next lesson was transfiguration class. Each child got their wand and a piece of play dough. Using our magic word for change - mutatio! We had to change our simple lump into a sphere, a cube, a snake, a mouse, a cat and a car. Then the children created their own transfigurations and draw in their Hogwarts workbook.

Our last lesson for the day was flying practice. We played rob the dragon nest but we had to fly to get there (we used cricket wickets) Mrs Fulford had a bit of a giggle as she watched the children trying to command their brooms. Lots of up! Up! Up!
Here are a couple of photos of our game...
At the end of the day we totaled the house points and orange were victorious on 160 points. Well done Teylah, Naomi, Sovea and Darnell.
It was a really enjoyable day with lots of laughter and learning. We can’t wait to read our next novel!
