Duffy Kid

This week our duffy superstar was Izabella. She is making fantastic effort in her reading
and comes to school everyday with an awesome attitude.
Izabella has moved 5 levels in her reading age.  WELL DONE Izabella!

Recycle! Reduce! Reuse!

This term our whole school is learning about protecting our environment. We are learning about recycling and how this can help if we do it right. Yesterday Room 7 went to visit the Visy Recycling centre in Onehunga. This company take all of the recycling waste from our curb side and recycles it at their plant.
Room 7 were split into 2 groups for this trip. Half of them went with Room 20 and Mrs Thomas and Half went with Room 21, Mr Martin and Mrs Fulford. We arrived at the plant and were greeted by Greer. She took us to a special room where we learnt about what we can recycle.

A interesting fact ... all your recycling must be clean otherwise it goes to the tip!

Greer got us dressed up in the safety gear and we went for a walk to the MRF which is a huge ramp which was full of recycling rubbish like milk bottles, cans, paper and glass. We looked at the bales which was the finished product of the recycling process. Then we went back inside for more learning. It was a great day! Thank you Visy Recycling Centre and our great helpers for coming with us!

Duffy kids

This week we had 2 Duffy kids in Room 7. Both received there book for working hard and great focus. Ata was a bit too shy to stand up in front of the school so we did her presentation in Room 7.

Awesome work Ata and Harlem!

Our beautiful self portraits

Room 7 has spent the first part of this term creating some very stunning self portraits. We started with our backgrounds, creating patterns inspired by our cultures and the cultures of children in the class. We then took photos of ourselves and used a programme to turn them into a pencil sketch. Finally we decorated our names. We think they look amazing. Come in and have a look for yourself.

Duffy role model assembly

This week we had a really interesting role model into talk to us. His name was Myron Simpson. He is a road and track cyclist who won a silver medal at the Junior Track World Championships in Mexico and represented NZ in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Myron was really interesting, showing us the different gear he used when racing. Arvin was presented with a Duffy book and certificate for always been an amazing role model for others. Thank you Duffy and Myron for an inspiring assembly.

Trip to Totara Park

Yesterday the whole school went to Totara Park on a trip. The weather was stunning and the kids were amazing. Room 7 had lots of fun swimming. Mark even went to the deepest end. Mr Lyth commented that one of the best swimmers in middle school was Warren! Nice work!

After swimming Room 7 had a play at the big playground then walked to the Botanical Gardens. There were some very tired kids by the end of the day. Thank you to all the parents who came with us or met us at Totara Park. We hoped you had a great day too!

Duffy kid at assembly

Warren got our duffy book at assembly today. He has been working so hard during maths and is focussed and determined to do well. Awesome Warren - what a great attitude!
