Play

Over the last few weeks Mrs Fulford has been reading about the importance of play and how it encourages our minds to learn, lets us explore our world and helps develop our oral language skills. Today after a couple of weeks of collecting fruit boxes some of the boys created an awesome box fort. It went from a mansion to castle. The boys used lots of different skills to complete this fort...negotiating, communicating, perseverance to name a few. They also learnt a new word... sturdy. Our fort needed to be a bit more sturdier. Here are some photos of the progress.

Fun day

On Wednesday middle school had an end of year celebration. A fun day! There were 8 different activities over the course of the day and all the children were split into 8 groups so that there were several children from each class in each group. We had a Lego play room, ice-blocks and chill time, playground, the sandpit, Mr Martin crazy games, water play, a treasure hunt and best of all .... nerf war! Look at the smiles.

New class

Yay the new playground has opened, and we are finally back in a real classroom but it is NOT room 7! We have moved out of the library and into Mrs Fulford's new class in room 24. This is a bit sad and happy as Mrs Fulford spent 10 years in room 7 but she also gets to move into new open space and try some new things. Here are some photos of our new playground.

Harry Potter dioramas

As part of our celebration of finishing the first Harry Potter book Room 7 are creating dioramas of our favourite scenes. We had to write about what happened in our scene, design the diorama and then create it. We had lots of fun. Here are some photos of our work in progress.

Harry Potter day

Last week Room 7 finished reading Harry Potter and the philosophers stone. It was a great read! To celebrate we had a Harry Potter inspired learning day.
It started on Friday when all the children received their Hogwarts acceptance letters which included their equipment list and asking them to be ready Monday for their lessons.
After a busy weekend of preparing Monday arrived along with 29 very excited children! First, we needed to go through the secret wall to platform 9 3/4. Each child received their train ticket and through they went.
Next was of course the sorting ceremony where the children were sorted into 7 groups of four using the sorting hat. Once all the groups were ready, we started our first lesson. POTIONS! The groups had to create a potion for laughter using the ingredients provided.

  • Powdered mermaid scales (Baking soda)
  • Ground unicorn horn (Glitter)
  • Angel snot (Vinegar)
  • Crystallized sunbeams (Crystals)
  • Fairy spit (Coconut essence)
  • Essence of rainbow (Red food colouring)
  • Christmas syrup (Almond essence)
  • Happiness elixir (bubble mixture and blower)
  • Dragons blood (dish washing liquid)
Lots of laughs and squeals when the ingredients exploded. Lucky we were wearing our protective aprons.

Here is a video and some photos...

Our next lesson was transfiguration class. Each child got their wand and a piece of play dough. Using our magic word for change - mutatio! We had to change our simple lump into a sphere, a cube, a snake, a mouse, a cat and a car. Then the children created their own transfigurations and draw in their Hogwarts workbook.

Here are some photos and a video...

Our last lesson for the day was flying practice. We played rob the dragon nest but we had to fly to get there (we used cricket wickets) Mrs Fulford had a bit of a giggle as she watched the children trying to command their brooms. Lots of up! Up! Up!

Here are a couple of photos of our game...

At the end of the day we totaled the house points and orange were victorious on 160 points. Well done Teylah, Naomi, Sovea and Darnell.

It was a really enjoyable day with lots of laughter and learning. We can’t wait to read our next novel!
