Room 7 to the rescue!

This week our writing was about the firefighter and the kitten. We watched a go-pro clip and then pretended we were the firefighter. Every single story that the children wrote were fantastic!
Here is the video and a few of our stories.

Firefighter Joseph saves the day!

Wee woo wee woo went the fire truck going down the lane. It stopped at the smoking house. It was dark and spooky! As I rushed in the house I was with my friends. It was dark and creepy inside. I put on my torch but all I saw was ash. I walked in the living room and I shone my light all around. Then I saw a poor kitten  laying on the ground. I picked it up and rushed outside. I put it on my glove and put a towel on it. I poured water on him. Suddenly it moved. He said “MEOW!” I felt like a hero!

Firefighter Lucian saves the day!
"Hurry guys, we have to get to the house before the fire spreads" my chief said in a disappointed voice. When we arrived I rushed into the burning building. It was a nice sunny day but when I stepped into the house of ashes everything changed. (I called it the house of ashes because all I could see was ashes). It was so dark all I could see was darkness so I grabbed a torch and shone it all around the room. I told my buddy beside me "I'll go that way". I walked into the room with a shivering body. Horror flashed before my eyes. I walked around the room when suddenly I noticed an animal that looked like a toy. As I took another step I felt shamed and I knew it was a kitten. It's fur was as soft as a silky cloud. I tasted fear in my mouth so I spat it back out! I rushed out with the kitten and tapped my buddy and said "I'm going to sped outside because we are almost out of oxygen". I ran out of that ash filled house. I thought for a minute and then I got out the oxygen mask and took my glove off to place the poor kitten on it. I grabbed a bottle of water to wake it up. Then I felt a tear in my eye because I saw the kitten move a muscle. I picked it up and it replied with a thank you "Meow". That is why I love kittens.

Firefighter Joanna saves the day!

Have you ever saved a life? Well I have, let me tell you all about it. It began on a burning hot day and there was a house on fire. All the firefighters assembled at the house. I was there with all my buddies. When I dashed inside the scary house it was filled with hot ashes. It was nothing compared to the outside of the house. It was as dark as the night sky inside the house. I felt brave when I walked into the house but the deeper I went the more nervous I got. I couldn't see anything but ash and smoke. I reached into my backpack and grabbed my flashlight. I shone it all around the lounge. Suddenly I saw a tragedy! I saw ... a white baby kitten laying sorrowfully on the floor. I was wondering why something so heartbreaking could happen to something so innocent and cute. I picked it up as gently as I could and told my mate I was going outside. I rushed outside like a cheetah sprinting behind it's prey. I opened up the fire truck and pulled out an oxygen mask and put it on the teeny, fluffy kitten. In my mind I whispered "I hope this works" and it did! I glanced at the wee kitten and I started praying for the gentle creature. Suddenly his leg shuffled a little. I burst into tears but with a grin. I held the minuscule kitten tight. Before long the kitten meowed a little thank you. I was full of joy.

Firefighter Losaline saves the day

Wee woo wee woo went the fire truck. It happened on a terrible day. I am a firefighter and I can save people and animals. When I saw the smoky, ashy house I did not like it but I went inside with my buddy. When I went inside there was ash on the floor and it smelt like smoke. I was shaking because I was so scared. It was spooky inside that house. I went next to my buddy who is a girl. After that I went in the living room. It was dark and scary in the house. The windows were so dark you couldn't see anyone. When I looked down on the ground there was a toy but it was really a dead baby kitten with soft paws. I went to my buddy and I tapped my buddy and I said "hey there is a dead baby kitten" and she said "yes!" I picked it up and went outside. I put the soft baby kitten on the soft mat. I put the oxygen mask on her and my heart was feeling shaky. I said "come on little cat!" Then I put some water on her and she was alive. I was happy! I am going to keep her and she said "Meow" which I think is thank you. I was proud.

Creativity and innovation

This term our focus is creativity and innovation. We are learning about the tui and are going to make bird feeders. However we do fruit every Monday and Wednesday so we have about 20 boxes that get put into the recycling. Joseph had a great idea to make a hotel out of one the boxes. The idea was very popular! We made seats, tui  houses, Waiheke Island scenes, castles, masks, cars, parks and marble runs.

Reading is cool!

Our new buddy class

Here are some pictures of our latest buddy session with room 23.

What is special to me

In room 7 we are special. As part of our writing at the beginning of the year we wrote about things that were special to us. Here are some of the photos of our special things.

Barriers to learning

Room 7 had a big discussion about what stops our learning during class time. We also discussed how we could stop these barriers. One thing we discussed was who we worked well with or did we work best alone. We used writing as our example. Here are our photos of who we work best with.
