Times tables

As part of our learning in maths (stage 5) we are learning to instantly recall our times tables. Here are some photos of the children practising.
(They got slightly carried away but great work)

We are learning to instantly recall our 2, 3, 4 and 5 times tables.

Writing time

Every day at the end of writing time we share back our stories with a buddy and edit them together. Then a couple of children read their writing to the class. The rest of the children listen carefully and feedback what they liked and ideas that would make their story better. This is to help the author know how to improve their writing. Today Trevor shared his writing (of which he was very proud). This was the first time Trevor had wanted to stand up and share with the rest of the children. It was a great report and we were super proud of him. Tino pai Trevor!

Report writing

This term Room 7 is learning to write reports. Our first attempt at reporting writing was about tigers. We watched some YouTube clips about tigers and did note taking while listening. We then shared these notes back with the class and compiled a list of different facts about tigers. Our next step was to categorise the facts into 4 headings - habitat, food and diet, appearance and other information. When we did this, we were ready to write. Here are some pictures of our planning stage (note taking and categorising) and some examples of our cool reports.

Maths with the bees and seals

Today the bees and seals worked together during maths time to learn place value partitioning. This is when you add your 10's and 1's together to work out the answer. Just like this...

                                          TO       TO
                                           45  +   42   =
                                             5  +     2  =  7
                                           40  +   40 = 80

                                           80  +  7  = 87

Here are the children hard at work.
