As part of our learning pathway topic about space, Room 24 learnt about the moon this week during writing.
We watched this youtube clip from National Geographic and wrote down the key words we heard to remind us about the important information.
At the end of this session we re-watched the video and ticked the key words as we heard them.
On Tuesday we used these key words to complete the 10 word challenge. These were the 10 key words we used.
Moon 4.5 billion years
debris dust and rock
China craters
20th July 1969 asteroids
5th largest meteoroids
Here are some of our stories we wrote using the key words.
The Moon
The moon was formed 4.5 billion years ago. The moon is as big as China. The moon is covered with dust and rocks. The moon is the 5th largest moon in our solar system. The moon has deep holes which are called craters. What caused the craters were meteoroids and asteroids. The moon was made from debris. On 20th of July 1969 a man went to the moon. That man who went to the moon was called Neil Armstrong.

On Tuesday Room 24 went on a trip to Stardome to
learn about our solar system. We had so much fun and learnt so much!
When we first arrived at stardome we jumped off the bus and went inside Stardome. John greeted us and took us into the special classroom where we learnt about the sun, our planets in our solar system and other space bodies such as comets and asteroids.
Did you know... The sun is a star! There are 3 types of planets in our solar system
rocky planets like Earth, Mars,
Venus and Mercury
gas giants like Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune -
dwarf planets like pluto, Ceres and Eris
After our classroom session we walked around in the foyer and looked at all the exhibitions out there. Here are some photos.
After a good look around we went into the Observatory to learn more about our solar system. We sat in comfortable chairs like at a movie theatre but the movie was on the ceiling. The lights went down and we were looking at the night sky. We learnt about different constellations and how to find different planets in the night sky. Here are some photos before the lights went down.
After our Stardome session finished we went outside for lunch and a play at Cromwell Park. Here are some photos and videos.
