Exploring Tuesday

Another awesome day of exploring today. We had lots of fun exploring different activities. Some of the words we discussed during our sharing time were…

Team work – Alyssia and Olivia worked together to traverse the playground.

Perseverance - Caleb was trying to master the monkey bars as part of a circuit he was doing on the playground. He tried and tried but kept falling off. Finally he did it. Look how proud he was!

Slimy and squishy - The children in the sandpit had created an enormous river. Lila and Ckylar discovered it was very slimy and squishy when they stood in it.

Aerodynamic - Charlie and Kalahata tested the aerodynamics of their lego creations. This means they had to have the right shape to fly and reduces the drag from the air moving past.
We might need to keep practising next Tuesday.

Here are some photos and stories about what we did today.

Some of the girls decided to play with the little shop and fake money. They got a calculator and pretended to call each other about their shopping list.

The children made a enormous river in the sandpit.

A group of girls went to the playground and created their fort using string, a sheet and the playground equipment. Last week it kept flying away so they tried different strategies to make it better. Well done girls.

Some children choose to paint. Dayton was able to create an even better galaxy.

Setting up our maths programme

As part of setting up for the beginning of the year Room 24 are learning to use our maths equipment correctly. Here are some photos of the cool things we have been making, designing and building.

Exploring Tuesday

Every Tuesday Room 24 are going to be having an exploring afternoon. Mrs Fulford has been doing lots of learning around play-based learning. This comes from Real Play Coalition - Research shows that play is vital to a child’s development, equipping them with the skills necessary to tackle humanity’s future, such as emotional intelligence, creativity and problem solving. To be a superhero is to lead; to host a teddy for tea is to organise; to build a fort is to innovate: to play is to learn.

This year we are going to do it as a way of improving our oral language as well as developing our key competencies like sharing, turn taking, listening, thinking, and working collaboratively.
Our first Tuesday was a great success. Before we started, we discussed a couple of rules (have fun/be respectful of other classes near us) Mrs Fulford showed us the different activities we could do and then we were off. Lots of exploring, discovering and laughter!
When we were finished, we came back to the mat and shared what we had done with a buddy, then we walked and talked with a new buddy. After our walk and talk, we went back to the mat and shared with Mrs Fulford. Lots of great ideas and language was shared. Our new words we learnt were …

Evade - Makaira and Leeroy had to evade the crocodiles and sharks in the river they created.
Explorer – Zhane, Quanitah and Azaelea were explorers in the jungle and built a fort with a sheet and string.
Galaxy – Dayton was painting a galaxy filled with stars and planets.

Predator – Joseph and Charlie were playing with the dinosaurs and the T-Rex was a predator.

Quanitah is baking cupcakes.

Watch out for those crocodiles boys!

Here is the start of Dayton's galaxy.

New Year - New name!

Image result for happy new year

Welcome back to a new year and a new name. At the very end of 2018 Mrs Fulford moved from her lovely Room 7 where she had been for 10 years to a brand new classroom - ROOM 24!
