This week our maths has been a bit different... we are exploring
during maths time. Yay!
Monday
Mrs Fulford introduce the idea of cars, trucks and things. We
talked about different vehicles and shape. To start we brainstormed what shapes
we knew (we knew most of the 2D shapes like circle, square, triangle) Although
we knew most of the 2D shapes we didn’t know how to describe them, so Mrs F
started there. She introduced these shapes.
2D shapes – circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, pentagon, oval
3D
shapes – cylinder, cube, cuboid, sphere
We
played the freely bag game where we got to see the difference between 2D and 3D
shapes. We learnt the attributes of shapes. 2D shapes are flat, have
sides and corners. 3D shapes are fat, have edges, faces and vertices (corners)
Mrs Fulford introduced a cool game on the smart board where we need to sort
shapes based on their attributes. After we finished playing we went away
to explore different shape equipment. Here are some photos...
Tuesday
We played the feely
bag game again (we really like it) then Mrs Fulford had a big surprise. She
gave us paper and a pencil and took us outside to look for 2D and 3D shapes on
the cars in the carpark. We drew and talked about the different shapes we saw
then we went back inside to investigate vehicles on the computers. We found
some cool cars!
Here we investigating with our buddy. We discovered that although there are some interesting shaped cars most vehicles are cuboids with cylinder shaped wheels.
Wednesday
Today we finished our plans and investigation from yesterday and then... we got to create our own vehicle using different things like construction, the whiteboards, playdough, maths equipment, chalk and paint. Here are the amazing creations we made.
Thursday
We pushed pause until next week because we had PEDAL POWER! Awesome!
