Exploring!

We love exploring – even when it rains!

This week we have changed our timetable around a bit. On Tuesday we went on a trip to a show called Whetu and Nick so we explored on Monday instead.
But Monday rained! We were all inside but that didn’t matter to us. There were about 50 of us in Room 24 and 25. Here is a video so you can see how focused and quiet it is with 50 children in a small space.

Cook Island Language Week - This week we are celebrating Cook Island language week. Mrs Martin and Mrs Fulford introduced several activities with a Cook Island focus. We had strips of card, paper, flowers and coloured card. We were able to make an ‘Ei katu using Mrs Fulford precious one as a model. Here is a picture of Lila wearing Mrs Fulford's one.

Here is a photo of Syriah creating her 'Ei katu and wearing the gorgeous final product.

We also created beautiful cards inspired by the tiare flowers of Rarotonga.

Another activity inspired by Cook Island language week was sewing tivaevae. Mrs Taylor worked with a group of children to sew their own tivaevae patterns.  The children definitely showed lots of perseverance but the finished products were beautiful. Here is our tivaevae inspiration.

Our last Cook Island inspired activity was dancing. Mrs Fulford put Cook Island music on the smartboard and some of us danced along with it.

Beyblades - This week Babylon brought his blayblade to school. He was practising his spinning skills when Mrs Fulford suggested he make a beyblade challenge arena. Babylon said he had no one to challenge so Mrs F suggested that he make a beyblade with someone so they could play together. Levi was keen so the boys worked together to create a beyblade out of our construction material and a spare marble. The boys problem solved, negotiated and communicated to make it. Here are some photos and a video.

Construction - as always, it is a hit. The children made all sorts of different creations. Alyssia, Olivia and Ana worked together to create cocoa, strawberries and a cupcake out of packing peanuts, recycling and paint.

Tenpin bowling - This week some of the boys were playing with the cars. They created a ramp using books, this then turned into a bowling ally with construction equipment. Very cool!

Here are some photos of our exploring adventures...
